What The Critics Say

  • "This isn't just about the spells; it is about the adventures that they help create.... Glorantha is probably the best researched and most cohesive settings in the world. Magic is integral to the setting, not a flimsy paste up."

    — Antonios S., RPGNet, Review of The Red Book of Magic.

  • "Much more than just a big list of spells."

    — Reviews from R'lyeh, A Spellbinding Corollary.

    Magical tome

Posted by Tim Clark on 5th Dec 2021

The Red Book of Magic is a beautifully presented and desirable book for any Runequest gaming table, working as a slim, handy reference to all the Rune and Spirit magic spells. The descriptions of magic and the inspiring art helps bring the world of Glorantha alive in new weird and wonderful ways. Highly recommended as a very specific reference work. Not the first Runequest book you would buy, but a worthy addition to any collection once you have the core rules.

    Red Book of Magic!

Posted by Aaron Carpenter on 20th Nov 2021

This is an extremely useful guide to magic in Runequest. While the Core Book and Starter Set provide a very detailed scope of Magic within Glorantha - this book is an extremely detailed and brilliant addition to magic in Glorantha and you will want to pick it up soon. A must have for any group wanting to deep dive into Magic. You will also be impressed with the art and quality of the book, it is nothing less than what we expect from Chaosium - excellent - as are all their products. Often times when I have purchased different RPG add on products I have always felt it was fluff to get me to spend more - with Runequest and Call of Cthulhu products, you can tell it is a labor of love - and that is admirable and worthy of my money, time, and attention.

Superb production and excellent content. Things like this are what set Glorantha apart from any other setting and RuneQuest: Adventures in Glorantha apart from any other RPG.

    Beautiful Reference Book

Posted by Diana Probst on 10th Jul 2021

The RBoM is a beautiful creation, showing not just what spells can do, but what they look like. It is full of the Special Effects of Glorantha, as well as the crunchy mechanics. It will be even more useful when it's paired with the upcoming Cults book, but even on it's own, it's worth grabbing from the shelf to look up the details of a spell.

    I Love the Modern Runequest

Posted by FJulia on 7th Jul 2021

I like that all the info for Rune and Battle magic is in one volume. The modern Runequest truly let's a player get into their character. I still fondly remember my RQ2 sessions with friends though.
