7th Sea meets the Far East
7th Sea 1st edition had a companion game, Legend of the Five Rings, which brought analogues of Asia into the 7th Sea game world in a stand-alone RPG with slightly different but fully-compatible rules. The world of Khitai is not the world of Legends of the Five Rings, but but this entirely new fantasy setting succeeds at bringing analogues of China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and other Asian settings, into 7th Sea's 2nd edition. I've never understood why the mysterious East of 7th Sea's 1st and 2nd edition had their own separate game, albeit a game with fully-compatible rules. Why not use the same rules across the entire product line? The cultures of Khitai don't feel quite as developed as Rokugan, the setting from Legend of the Five Rings. I think this is because there were originally multiple volumes of the Khitai RPG planned, but only the single core volume has made it into print (so far). Still, this material is a great stand-alone game and also adds a ton of material for 7th Sea. Strong recommend!
