Chaosium offers fan-use and licensing opportunities, both in English and in foreign languages. If you are a Chaosium fan and keen to share your content, or interested in working in partnership with us as a professional licensee, please look at these policy descriptions to see which would work best for you.
Fan Material Policy
We support and value the contributions of the wider Chaosium Tribe. We love to engage people with our mythic stories, and we want you to be able to share yours too! Our Fan Material Policy is designed to do just that while respecting ownership of our copyrights, trademarks, and other intellectual properties.
Commercial Licensing
Chaosium works with a wide range of commercial licensing partners who produce products to supplement and support our own. This includes board games, card games, certain RPG supplements, dice, computer games, and foreign language editions. These all operate under our Commercial License. Such licenses are for officially approved product and require ongoing management, regular reporting, and close work with our line editors. Accordingly, we are selective about who we partner with, and initial approaches require a detailed business plan. These commercial licenses also have specified release and revenue targets.
Community Content Programs
Our community content programs on DriveThruRPG are a means for independent creators and small publishers to create and release their own material for our game systems. Creators can make money from their published community content, or make it freely available – it is entirely up to the creator. Details about how these programs operate are available at the links below.
Our current community content programs are:
- The Miskatonic Repository (Call of Cthulhu)
- The Jonstown Compendium (Roleplaying in Greg Stafford's world of Glorantha, including content for RuneQuest, Questworlds (Glorantha), and 13th Age Glorantha)
- The Explorer's Society (7th Sea)
Note: we have plans to add community content programs for some of our other game systems in due course.
Our community content programs are distinct from our licensing structure – they operate separately in parallel. A Chaosium licensee can also have content on offer in our community content programs.

Fan-Use and Licensing Q&A
Answers to some commonly-asked questions we receive about fan-use and licensing.
General Note on Fan-Use and Licenses
Note, we have a number of exclusive license agreements already in place for certain game lines, or types of products, or for products in certain foreign languages. This means it may simply not be possible to grant you the license you want at the present time, even if your proposal has great merit. We may also already have similar projects under consideration or in the works ourselves. It is our discretion whether we grant you a license or not.
All material covered under these policies, as well as their advertising, promotions, press releases, or other affiliated documents must not contain racist, homophobic, discriminatory, or other repugnant views; overt political agendas or views; sensationalist or distasteful depictions or descriptions of criminal violence against children; rape or other acts of criminal perversion; or other obscene material, without the express written permission of Chaosium Inc.
