What The Critics Say

  • “A beautiful introduction to the pantheons and mythological figures of Glorantha. Superbly comprehensive, it sets up and serves as a companion to the Cults of RuneQuest series and if the rest of the titles are going to look as good and delve deeper into their subjects, then the RuneQuest fan is going to very pleased with each new volume.”

    — Reviews from R’lyeh, Gods & Sods.

  • "The single most comprehensive survey of Glorantha's rich mythology that we have ever seen."

    — Andrew Logan Montgomery, THE CULTS OF RUNEQUEST: Part One, Some Thoughts on Chaosium Cults and the Prosopaedia.

  • “If I were to measure the depth of the community’s collective drool, I’d need a yardstick...”

    — Akhelas, REVIEW: The Prosopaedia for RuneQuest.

  • “A wonderfully illustrated encyclopedia of the entire mythical landscape of Glorantha, a proof that RuneQuest isn’t like any other fantasy game.”

    — The Godlearners, Review: Cults of RuneQuest, The Prosopaedia .

  • "In this day and age, RuneQuest‘s best bet is in emphasising the distinct and unique flavour of Glorantha and these books do a wonderful job with it... Though much of the material here was developed before his death by Greg Stafford, the job of finishing the project has fallen to Jeff Richard, who has made it a labour of love, along with a wealth of collaborators, including artists who’ve made some of the nicest and most flavourful-looking art I’ve ever seen in a RuneQuest book."

    — Refereeing & Reflection, a RuneQuest Encyclopedia.

  • “What Greg Stafford, Jeff Richard, and the team at Chaosium are doing with these books is nothing short of brilliant, and The Prosopaedia and Mythology, have to come highly recommended, not just the depth they add to Glorantha, but for sheer readability and entertainment value.”

    Great book, poor playability content.

Posted by Philippe Grillot on 19th Sep 2023

This isn't an easy review as this is book nicely done with tons of info, but it depends on what you would be looking for as a buyer. If looking for playable content without having to brainstorm much, then there is little to offer on my sense compared to other contents. If looking at background info to develop your own content, then it is a treasure throve. Therefore, if you are on a budget then other cults books would be a must, if you can afford it without question then go ahead.

    Great Crystallisation

Posted by Philip Mcdonnell on 16th Sep 2023

I was away from RQ for years. It was Covid and Discord that really got me back into it. This first publication in a series of...10 is it,..has brought me up to date and stopped me from trawling wikis and getting it skewed. Lavishly illustrated, alphabetised, with mostly brief descriptions of the gods or heroes including how they are represented, I have found this Prosopaedia invaluable, especially when creating content for my small group. I am aware that it is not 'comprehensive' in that there are other gods listed in other web resources but this is the official publication so it is canon. I would have found it better if the pantheons had been tabulated somehow with whatever aspect the gods are worshipped for. And it could've been better still for newbies or people who've been away for a while to understand where the pantheons reach and overlap on a couple of maps. Maybe there will be supplement at some point in the future.

At first I though that I wasn't gonna like this one as much as other books, but, I was wrong. The inside and great ideas that gives to the mythology is just great

Ernalda, bless my brain with fertility to blossom these 1000 idea seeds I've picked up reading this book! Perfect combo of art and words to make your imagination kick into gear. Very, very pleased with this, and looking forward to the rest of the series even more now.

This is such an awesome book, I can't stop reading it. There's so much to absorb. The art by Katrim Dirim makes this one of the most beautiful books released for RuneQuest. It was worth the wait!
