[L-R: Paul Fricker, Lynn Hardy, Matthew Sanderson, Scott Dorward, Mike Mason]
Last weekend, I travelled North to Gateshead for a special Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition launch party on Sunday 10th July. It was hosted by the steadfast folk of Travelling Man - a games store just across the river in Newcastle upon Tyne. Joining me was my 7th Edition co-author, Paul Fricker, as well as Scott Dorward (writer of Black Water Creek, in the Keeper Screen Pack and Cubicle 7’s line editor for World War Cthulhu) and Matthew Sanderson (writer of Amidst The Ancient Trees in the Call of Cthulhu Rulebook). These are also the guys behind the scenario collection Nameless Horrors and the popular Call of Cthulhu podcast "The Good Friends of Jackson Elias.” Also joining us, and assisting with the event’s organisation, was Lynne Hardy (Achtung! Cthulhu line editor and Chaosium writer for the forthcoming Children of Fear campaign).
The event took place in a 1920s themed speakeasy, called the Prohibition Bar, which served as a splendid backdrop, especially as nearly every one of the attendees turned up in 1920’s style suits and dresses. After a question and answer session, we signed copies of the Call of Cthulhu Rulebook and then split into smaller groups for an afternoon of games, with myself and my fellow guests each running a range of Call of Cthulhu scenarios.
Thanks go to Rebecca Swainston of Travelling Man Newcastle for masterminding the event and being the perfect host. It was a long but fun day and greatly enjoyed! Thanks also to Tiffany Sanderson, who recorded the proceedings with camera in hand.
